Stylish! Classy!Finally!!! If you are looking for a genuine "Newspaper Boy's Cap," look no further! This gender-neutral hat does exactly what it is designed to do, and that is "Slouch!"During the 1920's-30's and 40's newspapers and radio news broadcasts were the only source of news. (Certainly during those years "Worrisome News" seemed the "main fare!"). As the men and women cascaded down busy intersections during the morning rush, hoping to beat their bosses to work, they would hear the cracking voices of the young newspaper boys, each challenging the passers-by to stop issuing the call, "Read all about it! Churchill Remains Defiant During London Blitz!" Each of these boys wore caps that had eight panels that met at the crown, being held by a button. With the large beret slouched completely forward so as to nearly cover their hats' beaks, or slid to the side nearly touching either ear, or pitched toward the back, the cap's beak pointing toward the clouds, these newspaper boys proudly introduced themselves without saying a word to those chilled hands that offered a coin in exchange for the news of the day. The boys' cries never ceased. But they were known as being "cocksure," "jaunty", "a swell kid" (!) and "determined! Prob'ly supportin' his fam'ly!" -- all as determined by the unique manner of each boy's "slouch" and how he broke-in the beak (brim) of his cap.There was a day -- not too long distant -- when hat sizes handily matched our shoe sizes. (How? I've no idea, save to say it worked!) I am 5'5" in height and weigh 110 lbs. I am a gal who has loved hats all of her life. Shoe size? Seven. Hat size? Seven. The newspaper boy's hat that you have just found is advertised as being for men; it is not. Ladies -- have at it! I ordered a medium; the fit is perfect, and your look -- as you choose to design it -- will be compelling! Gentlemen? This hat is as unique as are you, so let your "inner kid" come out long enough to play with the "slouch" and the "beak" ... er... "brim." Give us some attitude! Incidentally, the cap is wonderfully comfortable! Strangers will stop you, questioning from where did get "That Great Cap!" That's a promise!I appreciate your time. I purchased the cap to match a black coat, but the patch colors are actually based on brown, not black (see my photo). But, since the cap is really nice, I’ll keep it.As for fit, finish, and general quality, this hat is exactly what I had expected and hoped-for. For the price -- especially in comparison to similar hats from the British isles -- this is a great value. (Seams are straight, even and tight; a size "L" fits my (US 7-1/4) head perfectly, with just a little slack.) It also has "just enough" material above the crown that it does not look sloppy but may be shifted to one side or another, a bit like a beret and allowing me to personalize the wear.)The color, however, came as a bit of a negative surprise. I bought a dark gray herringbone tweed pattern, and I thought (from the description and photos) that it was still light enough in color that the pattern could actually be seen from a few feet away.Not true. If you're any farther than 6" away from it, this cap looks like it is a uniform "very dark gray to black" color and the tweed pattern is not visible at all.I am going to keep this hat; and I am probably going to wear it fairly frequently -- especially as fall and winter progress; it is 100% wool and has a nice, quilted lining. But if I want the exact color and appearance that I thought/hoped I was purchasing, I guess I'll have to find another hat!It's hard to find 100% wool flat caps at this low price. The concern with a 100% wool hat is that it will shrink when it gets wet, but I've worn this hat several times in Seattle downpours, and I haven't noticed any shrinkage. The burgundy color of my cap makes me easy to spot in a crowd.It was just a little bit too loose. I bought the medium. size. It did fit when I snapped the front tho.Liked everything about this purchase and will proudly wear this cap during football season.
